Why we work under rubber dam

A rubber dam is a thin sheet that isolates the tooth being treated from saliva and moisture.

Why it matters

Composite and other bonding materials need a dry, clean surface. Isolation helps the restoration bond well and last longer.

For you

It also keeps water, materials and small instruments away from your mouth and throat, which many patients find more comfortable.

Together with magnification, it lets the doctor remove only the damaged tissue and keep as much healthy tooth as possible.

The information here is general and does not replace an examination.
